Every Little Bit Counts

During this season when so many are struggling, it can be hard to see how a small gesture can make a difference in the life of someone facing big challenges. However, at Interfaith Works, we have seen how a little amount can go a long way.

I recently learned about a client, I’ll call her Mary, who sought help from IW Connections. A single mom, Mary, had to take a leave of absence from work to manage her health and support her daughter who was experiencing a mental health crisis. Mary earned an hourly wage and did not have any paid time off. As a result, she did not have enough money to pay her rent. IW Connections provided her with $400 in emergency rental assistance, which allowed Mary to pay her rent in full. Our Connections team also helped her apply for Medicaid and food stamps, which eased the burden on her temporarily reduced income. As a result of this support, the family remained in their home, allowing Mary to focus on caring for her daughter.  We often have clients like Mary who face a life-changing barrier. Seemingly small gifts and gestures of support can be the catalyst to help remove that barrier and open the door to the next step forward. What might feel or seem insignificant could have an enormous impact and give someone the chance to get unstuck.

I urge you to consider the impact you can have on the lives of our neighbors experiencing crises or hardships - your gift can make a world of difference to them.

Thank you to everyone who has given so generously this season. Because of you, thousands of our neighbors will continue on their path to greater stability.

Wishing you a very happy holiday and new year!
